The Tiger Lake-U is a laptop CPU and according to the leak features 4 cores and 8 threads, with a single core boost speed of 4.3GHz and a multi-core boost of 4GHz. The leak saw the Tiger Lake-U tested against an Ice Lake-U, also a 4 core/8 thread CPU. The Ice Lake-U runs at a base clock of 1.3GHz with a 3.9GHz single core boost and a 3.5GHz multi-core boost. At 15W the Tiger Lake-U was around 17% faster and at 28W configuration this difference stretched to around 30%.
Demonstrating superior performance within the confines of an Intel in-house bunfight is all well and good, but the big red elephant in the room will be the AMD Renoir chips.
The Tiger Lake CPUs are expected in 2020 so we’ll have a better idea how they stack up relative to the competition then.
