Rumour Control: Radeon RX 5500 custom variants expected in December

It seems that the custom versions of the AMD Radeon RX 5500, the official replacement for the AMD Radeon RX 590 are scheduled for release on the 12th of December. The website ITHome makes the claim that AMD has briefed their AIB partners that they can release their custom builds on that date. Given that the RX 5500 has already been floating around in pre-built systems the news that it will soon be hitting general release is not unexpected.

The AMD Radeon RX 5500 uses a variant of the Navi 14 GPU and it has 1408 stream processors and 4GB of GDDR6 RAM. It works off a 1670MHz base clock speed with a boost speed of 1845MHz. The initial OEM variant launched at a price point around $149 so we can expect some variance with the custom models.

It is worth bearing in mind that the RX 5500 has only half as much RAM as the RX 5500 XT, which launched at only a slightly higher $179 MSRP, which might potentially make the RX 5500 a much less favourable option. However both cards have the same 128-bit Bus interface so the amount of memory might not be a deal breaker.
